2023-24 Learning Exchange Series: Forest carbon stewardship: The nexus of climate adaptation and mitigation

In this webinar, Adrienne Keller and Todd Ontl present "Forest carbon stewardship: The nexus of climate adaptation and mitigation."

Title

Forest carbon stewardship: The nexus of climate adaptation and mitigation

Speaker

Adrienne Keller, Climate Adaptation Specialist, Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science, Michigan Technological University

  • Adrienne is a research scientist with the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science. She focuses on assisting land managers in understanding the benefits and trade-offs of different management options centered around climate change adaptation. Adrienne has a strong interest in synthesizing scientific research and translating relevant science for effective land management and decision-making. Adrienne’s research background is in terrestrial carbon and nutrient cycling, spanning tropical and temperate forests, grasslands, and agroecosystems. She completed a post-doc with the Nutrient Network and the Minneapolis-St. Paul Long Term Ecological Research program at the University of Minnesota and holds a PhD in Biology from Indiana University and a M.S. in Resource Conservation from the University of Montana.

Todd Ontl, Carbon Stewardship Specialist, U.S. Forest Service

Description

The U.S. Forest Service has developed new guidance on how to provide for increased carbon stewardship and climate resilience across our national forests and grasslands. In this talk, we will first present the USFS’s guiding principles of carbon stewardship. We will then discuss how the Adaptation Workbook can be used to consider climate-informed management of carbon at the scale of individual projects.
